October 10, 2011, Colombo: Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, today announced that it has achieved the prestigious ISO 27001:2005 certification in Sri Lanka from British Standards Institution (BSI) for its Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) hot on the heels of the company receiving BS 25999 certification last week. Achieved after a stringent and rigorous assessment process, this accreditation is symbolic of Airtel’s high benchmarks of service delivery and certifies the strength of the company’s voice and data services across its island wide network.

Amali Nanayakkara, CEO & MD – Sri Lanka, Bharti Airtel said on the achievement of the second accreditation, “The certification embodies the elimination of doubt when it comes to maintaining secure information systems. It provides certainty for consumers who enjoy our products and services and instills confidence in an era where information security is under constant threat. This accreditation scheme is a major step forward in assuring our customers of the fidelity of our mobile services as they transmit, exchange and broadcast information across our network.”

BSI’s ISO 27001:2005, the British Standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), is the only auditable international standard which defines the requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS). The standard is designed to ensure the selection of adequate and proportionate security controls which helps protect information assets and gives confidence to customers. The standard adopts a process approach for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining, and improving ISMS.
