airtel presents Colombo Fashion Week exclusively on w@p & 3G

February 04, 2011, Colombo, Colombo Fashion Week is all set to take centre stage on February 4 this year and promises the glitter and grandeur of the international catwalk once again for the snazziest fashion elite. To entice audiences with the latest trends in fashion, 22 Sri Lankan designers will take their designs to the catwalk alongside 12 international designers throughout the much anticipated weekend. Showcasing the collective effort of designers who will one day dazzle international audiences with their line of couture, as done previously, Colombo Fashion Week will stage off best in class talent that Sri Lanka has to offer the world.

This year, Colombo Fashion Week will enthrall more audiences with airtel ramping up as official mobile telecommunications partner for the glamourous weekend which is scheduled to get on board at the Colombo Hilton. By simply dialing *444# on either a 3G or GPRS enabled handset, customers can select from an array of options on how they would like to experience Colombo Fashion Week on their airtel mobile. Customers can tap into interviews with some of the top names in the fashion industry, access content uploaded on its w@p portal, or simply enjoy the enchantment of the catwalk from their homes or wherever they may be.

“This event has experienced an exceptional response over the last few years. This year, we are thrilled to be able to share these shimmering moments with more Sri Lankans, now that the event is streamed over airtel w@p and 3G”, said Ajay Vir Singh, President, Colombo Fashion Week. “Emerging talent is on the rise, and Sri Lanka is fast on its way to establishing itself as a niche in the international fashion world. To be able to share these moments with as many Sri Lankans as possible, in addition to the international community present, will certainly boost the confidence of our new designers and also recognise their contribution to the industry and the country”, he further added.

3G as a service, is gaining rapid acceptance and popularity within Sri Lanka, and is in line with airtel’s intention to provide its customers the opportunity to experience unique moments that etch the Sri Lankan calendar. The 3G story only gets better with airtel launching the service across some of its most strategic hubs in India recently, while making plans to roll out the service throughout the country in the near future. The fruits of these endeavours will only ripen to the advantage of Sri Lanka and “will further strengthen our resolve of getting our customers closer to what they love; a commitment  which we at airtel Lanka constantly aim to deliver”, Vidur Rattan, Head of Sales and Marketing, Bharti airtel Lanka said. “In this instance, designers are able to showcase their ingenuity in fashion to a wider audience through airtel w@p and 3G, while more Sri Lankans can gain access and participate remotely in Colombo Fashion Week initiatives. To encourage and support an industry that continues to promote Sri Lanka to the world stage”, he further added, “is something we consider an honour to be part of.”
